Dental Questions

Do you have questions about how dental insurance works? Would you like to learn more about one of our treatments? Our team at PeaksView Dental is always happy to answer any questions or concerns you have to get you the information you need to make the best decisions for your smile. Below, we’ve compiled a list of the most commonly asked questions we get from our patients for your convenience.

I am a new patient, what can I expect on my first visit?

Comprehensive evaluation of your dental health and dialogue on alternative treatments. New patients 25 years and older meet the dentist for a comprehensive exam and any necessary x-rays. Your concerns are evaluated and treatment options are recommended by the dentist, based on your dental needs. We are fully ADA compliant and wheel-chair accessible.

What is different about the PeaksView Dental Dentists?

Our team upholds 5 rules that make visiting us an exceptional experience. We have a “Smile Rule” because your smile improvement and your personal satisfaction is important to us. We have a “Family Rule” where we take care of your family’s dental needs as if it is our family. We have a “Platinum Rule” to treat others how you want to be treated. We have a “Proactive Rule” which is to anticipate your needs and consult with YOU on alternative solutions. Finally, we have an “Innovative Rule” to invest in technologies that allow OUR dental care to be more effective, efficient and affordable for YOU.

Do you accept dental insurance?

As a service to you, we will file your insurance. At the time of service, we collect your deductible and at least 20% of total charges. (Some procedures require a 50% payment). We are participating providers with Anthem of Virginia, and a Premiere Provider with Delta Dental. Additionally, Drs. Walerko and Wolf are participating providers with United Concordia. If your insurance pays more than the balance due, you may request a refund or carry a credit on your account for future work. Even if we are non-participating with your insurance we will file all necessary forms for you.

My explanation of benefits from my insurance company says you exceed the UCR. What does this mean?

Some dental plans are based on a chart or schedule of fees developed by third party payers. For this reason, you may receive a lower percentage of the reimbursement level indicated in your dental plan. For example, if your plan states that it will pay 80% of the cost of dental treatment, it means 80% of the fee as determined by the insurance company, and not the actual fee charged by our dental office. Most of our fees are close to the UCR. Our Business Office Staff is capable of generating estimates of treatment costs and your estimated insurance benefits, for your budgeting concerns.

Can I finance my dental treatment?

Yes, PeaksView Dental offers CareCredit financing options for our patients. CareCredit provides financing and low monthly payment options, no up-front costs, and no-prepayment penalties. The financing is available for any dental treatment including necessary procedures like root canals or cosmetic procedures like whitening, veneers, dental implants and more.

I have a dental emergency after hours, what do I do?

In case of extreme dental emergencies, you can call our Emergency on-call number, 540-529-7951. One of our dentists will return your call. An emergency is classified by dental pain that keeps you awake at night, extreme swelling, or injury that cannot wait until the next morning.

Are you more expensive than other dentists?

The value of the services you receive is important to us. Our fees are based on the overhead involved in this dental office, the treatment plan selected, and the time it takes us to provide you with the necessary dental care. They are structured to be competitive with the average level of fees in our area.

I am concerned about the health risks of having X-rays, do you have an alternative?

We now use digital radiographic imaging. It exposes you to about 15% of the radiation of a traditional X-ray and is much higher resolution. All of our hygienists and assistants are fully qualified on this new technology.
