If you didn’t get braces when you were a teenager, you might feel like you missed the boat on ever achieving perfectly straight teeth. Invisalign allows you to straighten your teeth without sacrificing your professional image. This series of clear plastic aligners shifts your teeth so discreetly that no one should even notice you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment. Contact us today to learn more.

How Invisalign Works

To begin your journey to a straighter smile, one of our dentists will take impressions of your mouth to create a 3D model. This model is used to map out how exactly the clear aligners will move your teeth into the desired position. Every pair of aligners shifts a small portion of your smile at a time. You’ll switch to a new pair every two weeks or so. On average, you can expect Invisalign treatment to last 12-18 months.

For your treatment to work, you must wear the aligners for at least 22 hours a day. Essentially, you should only take them out to eat, drink (anything other than water), brush, and floss. Unlike with traditional braces, you won’t have to attend frequent appointments to adjust the wires. You’ll still need to visit us every few weeks, but these appointments should be brief. We’ll quickly evaluate your progress and give you the next few sets of aligners.

Am I a Good Candidate for Invisalign?

Many of the most common orthodontic issues, such as overbite, underbite, gapped teeth, or crowded teeth, can contribute to oral health problems if left untreated. Misaligned teeth and jaws come with a higher risk of cavities, gum disease, teeth grinding, and TMJ dysfunction. If you have any of these orthodontic problems, you might be a candidate for Invisalign.

However, you’ll need to be responsible enough to wear the aligners as directed and not misplace them. That’s why we usually only recommend Invisalign for older teens and adults.

Ultimately, only a consultation with our team can determine your eligibility for this treatment.
